Gina Scialabba
Financial & Legal Writing Star
Life is about reinventing the world around you, thus spoke Gina Scialabba, Senior Legal Writer & Editor at Thomson Reuters/FindLaw.com, the web’s most trafficked legal information site reaching 9 million+ visitors per month. As a self-described, “reformed attorney,” Gina combines her extensive legal education and training with her passion for writing by educating consumer-based audiences on all things legal, from dangerous products to dangerous crimes.
A licensed attorney with a penchant for lively legal discourse, Gina has been immersed in the legal world since first gaining her bar license in 2006 when she became a criminal prosecutor handling both misdemeanor and felony cases. Gina eventually opened her own law practice defending clients with criminal, personal injury, and other matters at both the trial and appellate level.
After several years as a litigator, Gina decided to “flip the script,” and transition out of her Perry Mason-existence, forging a new path into the land of journalism and writing. She held positions as editor-in- chief of a San Francisco-based print magazine, managing editor of a SF-based newspaper, and as a radio reporter for the Bay Area’s NPR-affiliate, KQED. She's also contributed several written pieces to the KQED news blogs before landing at Thomson Reuters.
Gina is currently on the road towards her next big adventure: the State Department. Gina passed all the exams to become a Foreign Service Officer and is currently awaiting assignment to Washington D.C. for training and eventual deployment (fingers crossed!) abroad.
Gina graduated cum laude from Santa Clara with her BA in English Lit and a minor in Medieval and Renaissance Studies. She went on to get her JD with dual specialization certificates in criminal law and litigation. Gina was on the Dean’s List and received the CALI Award in her Trial Advocacy and Legal Writing classes.
Gina lives in Piedmont, Calif. with her partner and their unreasonably adorable Chihuahua. When she's not reading a novel, the Wall Street Journal, watching Game of Thrones, House of Cards or the Rachel Maddow Show, she's taking advantage of the richness and diversity of Bay Area life. Gina also loves to globetrot, having been to the faraway lands of Argentina, Uruguay, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Next Stop, warm weather climates: Sedona, Hawaii, and Costa Rica.
